In Funk part 1 we included a "Sanford & Son" themed portion.. Throughout sections of this track we have included a "Barney Miller" themed bass line. We figured, why not mix "Barney Miller" and "RWTD".. Turns out they made a fairly decent pairing..

Note to the ever irritating purists out there... This is not how the actual Barney Miller bass part goes, it is as we say, "Barney Miller" "THEMED".. (It's pretty close though...... ) lol

This riff pretty much repeats throughout the track with little variation, not unlike the actual RWTD riff. I'll demo some variations of it on the video lesson, but I'll probably only tab it once or twice here on the lesson page.

Solo #1

Basically for the leads on this track, I did an altered arpeggio from what Ed did in RWTD, and I twisted the solo's ending a bit as well.. I also straightened the feel a bit to contrast the otherwise lanky and loose Funk vibe of the rest of the track.. What you get are these sort of 11th arpeggios with a RWTD theme to them...

Be sure to alternate pick these.... Those of you that have access to the DVD X-TRas and have dug into the "Atomic JUNK" video lessons I'm sure will have no trouble with this solo, and will know why I ended each one a different way...

DEVIL INTERLUDE

Slipped in a bit of the devil riff to help people remember the song we're manipulating and having some fun with here... Heavy down beats and a as for guitar a pinch of digital delay is needed to get the sound right...

Final ending groove

The final ending section of this song is simply a grooved out version of the RWTD main riff. I just took it and exploded it all over the fret board, using pitches from the chords that make it up. You can do this with any riff you want. It's always fun. I used to enjoy doing this sort of thing to Deep Purple riffs when I was kid. Those riffs are ripe for this sort of embellishment and manipulation.
